This dish consists of spicy whole wheat uncooked roti pieces simmered into dal and cooked to perfection. Dal dhokli has a mild sweet and spicy flavor.

Ingredients of Dal Dhokli

0.5 Cup Arhar Dal (Toor Dal)
1.5 Tsp Salt
0.5 Tsp Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
2 Tbsp Peanuts
0.5 Tsp Red Chilli Powder
0.5 Cup Tomato
1 Tsp Ginger Paste
1 Tbsp Jaggery
8 Cup Water
3 Tbsp Cooking Oil
0.25 Tsp Mustard Seeds (Rai)
0.25 Tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
2 Pinch Asafoetida (Hing)
2 Nos Dry Kashmiri Red Chilli (Whole)
2 Tbsp Cilantro
0.5 Cup Wheat Flour/Atta
1 Tbsp Gram Flour/ Chickpea Flour/ Besan
1 Nos Green Chilli
0.25 Tsp Ajwain (Carrom) Seeds

How to make Dal Dhokli

Step 1: For the dhoklis, combine all the ingredients in a bowl, wheat flour, besan, 0.25 tsp turmeric, green chili, 1 pinch asafetida, carom seeds, 0.5tsp salt, and 1 tbsp oil and mix it well;
Step 2: Add the 0.25 cup water and make firm dough;
Step 3: Divide the dough into 2 equal parts and roll out each portion into about 7 inch in diameter;
Step 4: Cut each roti into about 1-1/2 inch squares and set aside;
Step 5: For the dal, take pressure cooker add dal, 1 tsp salt, 0.25 tsp turmeric, and 1 cup water, Cook over medium high heat;
Step 6: When the pressure cooker starts to steam, lower the heat to medium and cook 7-8 minutes;
Step 7: Turn off the heat and allow the steam to escape before opening the lid;
Step 8: Combine the cooked dal and 1 cup of hot water, whip the dal so it becomes creamy texture;
Step 9: Add about 3-4 cups of boiling water to the dal;
Step 10: Add peanuts, chili powder, tomatoes, ginger, and jaggery to dal, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally;
Step 11: Prepare the seasoning by heating the oil in a small pan, when oil is moderately hot add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds, asafetida, and red chilies and allow them to crack;
Step 12: Add this tempering to the dal, mix well, add dhokli and cook on a low medium heat for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally;
Step 13: Add cilantro and cook for another 2 minutes on low medium heat;
Step 14: Serve hot.
